I’m still not sure how he’s managing it, but Adam has once again shirked the responsibility of newsletter writing. So you’re putting up with me today.
- Tuesday’s Meadows extravaganza
- Photos of the week
- Very important AGM info
- Printing/darkroom tutorials
- Oban & Mull Trip- Photosoc Award 09/10
Unfortunately I wasn’t around for it, but I hear the pub quiz was a success. Presumably there were some winners, so congratulations to them and commiserations to any and all losers.
Pardon me for being skeptical about this, but the plans for this Tuesday’s session have left me with serious doubts about the sanity of some of the committee. The plan, so far as I can tell, is to get a camera, get a kite and err… somehow fuse the two together – DIY aerial photography. So once we’ve found a way of fixing a camera to a kite, controlling the camera from the ground, flying a kite that weighs a lot more than a kite probably should and we’ve found a suitably windy area for kite/camera flying, we’ll be able to put on a pretty special photosoc session for you all. Quite clearly that’s not going to happen, but it’s gotta be worth showing up for it anyway – when else will you get to see Thom failing to get something up in the air?
So as not to end up doing this in the dark, we’ll be meeting at 5pm instead of 7pm and the meeting place will be in the Meadows and not Pleasance. You’ll probably find us near the north end of Middle Meadow Walk. I would say that you’ll recognise us as the crowd of people at the bottom of a weird looking kite, but somehow I doubt it. Bring your cameras along too because (a) this needs documenting and (b) the Meadows look nice at sunset anyway.
There’s been a steady stream of photos from Alonso’s day appearing on flickr and since it was such a successful day, I reckon it deserves another week filling our photo of the week spaces.

Forth Bridge by Alonso Diaz. Yep, this is what the man himself produced on the day.

Random Sand by dkloi. A simple but very effective black and white image. Could do with a better title though.
And finally, I don’t know who to credit for this photo, but someone somewhere deserves a medal. Facebook is a truly wonderful thing:

The expert selective colouring tops off an already fantastic photo. A fashion statement and award-winning portrait in one single exposure. Michael Wayne Plant would be proud.
