Hi all,
Unfortunately Thom is feeling ill today so he’s had to cancel his insane kite aerial photography stunt. This is probably for the best – pretty sure he’d have written off anything he strapped to that thing. If you want to do any rentals or just have a general photographic play then the room’ll be open from 7 – maybe a chance to have a mess around with the new backdrop holder? Nothing official planned anymore though – sorry!
Couple of other things that have made their way into the photosoc inbox:
- AGM! Tues 23rd March
- Job offer from BBC food magazine ‘Olive’
- Photosoc Awards
- Roundup of this week’s tutorials
Annual General Meeting
Not many details at present, but please clear space in your diary for next Tuesday evening’s AGM where you’ll vote in new committee members for next year and enjoy a reflection of this year’s events over a glass or 2 of your favourite tipple. Last chance to see your favourite soccers before we all disappear into our rooms for exam revision – don’t miss it!
Assignment from BBC ‘Olive’ magazine
Bit short notice I know, but Gabby Harrington from BBC’s Olive magazine will be doing a feature in Glasgow this month. She’s looking for:
a portrait shot of someone/staff, a busy lively restaurant interior and or the food we talk about in situ in the restaurant or as a close-up on the table.
If you’d like to be considered for this, please send a selection of relevant work to gabby.harrington@bbc.com – selection will take place tomorrow morning!
Photosoc Awards
The voting is tight in the Photosoc Awards – there’s actually currently a 3-way tie! The winner will go down in the annals of Photosoc history and will receive his/her name on the soon-to-be-unveiled Photosoc cup of excellence. Please submit votes to atjbramley@hotmail.com – and no voting for me – I’m impartial in all of this! A quick reminder – you’re voting for the person you feel has made the most outstanding contribution to Photosoc this year.
This week’s tutorials
We’ve been sending a lot of emails this week and not BCCing them – sorry about that. The committee is beginning to change over – the new people have to learn the ropes and gmail is a bit of a &*(£” tbh. Here’s a roundup of what’s going on tutorial-wise this week:
Darkroom tutorials:
- Alice Turner – Tues 7:30pm email aliceturner@hotmail.com
- Morgaine Riedner – Wednesday 7:00pm email morgaineriedener@btinternet.com
- Lauren Bassam – Thursday 8:30pm email laurenbassam@hotmail.com
Printing Tutorials:
- Jason Ebbin – Weds 6:00pm email jasonme_chaos@yahoo.com
If you want to take any of those tutorials then email the tutors for details. Darkroom access £3, printer access £5 – you’ll be able to use both well into the summer. If you want to do anything on the day then bring film/paper/files along – we don’t have any to give you this year. www.photosoc.com for details.

Cheers all, see you tonight at 7 if you still fancy it :)
