1. Theatre and Gig photography – Friday 8th February

Committee members Paul and Chris are going to be speaking this week on their fields of expertise, making the most of working in a low light environment to get the shot you need! (this will be a great talk to attend if you’re interested in our weekend workshop..)

We will be starting at 19:30 sharp in the Highland Room at Pleasance. We’ll be convening in the bar at 19:15 to get a round of drinks and gather everyone together.

2. Swing Dance Photo Workshop – Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February

This weekend, Edinburgh University’s Swing Dance society is going to be holding a weekend of dance and competitions and we’ve been given the chance to photograph it!

On each day, two committee members are going to be taking the lead, showing 8 society members how to approach low light events and how to snap the right shot with moving subjects. We’ll also be taking portraits of the dancers as well as knocking back a couple of drinks and having a good time!

Our options are:
Saturday – 21:15: Swing Dance Competition with Mark and Robin
Sunday – 16:00: Tea Dance with Paul and Chris

That’s 16 places! Sign up before the slots go!

3. Next Year!

As I’m sure you’re all aware, each year Photosoc needs new committee members onboard to help us run the society! Being part of the committee is a greatly rewarding experience and certainly looks great on a CV. If you’ve been having any thoughts about joining the team next year, please feel free to send us and email at photosoc.ed@gmail.com and we’ll answer any questions you might have.

We’re looking for people to fill any and all positions on the board, and you certainly don’t have to be the world’s best photographer to be part of it! All we need is people with a passion for making stuff happen and putting our resources to good work.

Hope to hear from you soon!

4. Darkrooms

Darkrooms are up and running in full, so those of you who have had tutorials, feel free to develop to your heart’s content! Please remember if you are using the enlargers (Pleasance or Kings) to switch them off at the plug after use. We had an issue with over heating recently that caused the Bulb to blow, so remembering to switch them off means everyone can use them without a hitch. If you are still looking to have a tutorial send us a new email with the subject “Darkroom Pleasance” or “Darkroom KB” and one of our tutors will get back to you and arrange a session to get your access card!

5. Rentals

The society has a large range of equipment available to rent for free by our members, including a range of film/digital SLR cameras, lighting equipment and lenses.
To see what we have to offer have a look at: http://www.photosoc.com/facilities/rentals/
Send an e-mail with ‘Rentals’ in the subject and we’ll get back to you!

6. The PhotoShop

Our lovely photosoc shop has now been restocked, so we now have a nice fresh stock of film and paper for sale at great prices! Simply come along to one of our meetings, let us know what you’re after and either myself or our Treasurer Alex will sort you out!

7. Picture of the Week
Picture of the week comes from a personal favourite: Kirsty Bain! Kirsty is always beefing up her portfolio with shoot after shoot and it’s clear to see why they keep on coming back to her! Well done, Kirsty!
